Döşemealtı carpets are knotted with naturally dyed 100% plateau wool yarn, by Döşemealtı nomads (Yörüks) living on the plateaus around Antalya. They produce the handmade carpets called Döşemealtı, by using the pure wool and vegetal dyes that they make themselves. The design reflects the nomadic taste, which is expressed in geometric patterns and a color harmony of blue, dark green, red and white. The main motives are hands, camels, scorpions, letters, sheep eye, knife tip etc. The carpets' contours consist of slim bordures and wider bands, which are graced with ram's horns, scorpions and hands on hips motives. The center of the carpet is surrounded by an rectangular frame, which is filled with floral motives like bitter orange blossoms. The Döşemealtı carpets can serve a nice accent for neutral coloured rustic and boho interiors and can be combined well with wooden, wrought iron and brass items, and accessories like pillows, lampshades, curtains etc. matching the rug’s colour scheme. They are suitable for a variety of rooms like living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, winter gardens, libraries, offices.
